Thesco Benefits, LLC was formed by Richard Fleder and Walter Harris on October 26, 1996. The company began with the purchase of the Tanenbaum-Harber Co., Inc. (T&H) group department. This division of Tanenbaum-Harber had been started and developed by Richard Fleder in 1975. This business was purchased to provide a platform for future growth. The acquisition provided immediate access to an excellent core staff upon which to build.
On February 1, 1997, Thesco purchased the employee benefits division of Bartmon, Shapiro and Associates. The goal was to solidify and increase Thesco's client base to establish its place in the New York brokerage community.
On January 1, 1999, Thesco purchased Reynen Associates, Inc. RA was a highly successful benefits broker in northern New Jersey. This acquisition was made to further establish Thesco's presence in New Jersey.
In addition to acquisitions, Thesco has made several investments and partnerships in technology companies in the employee benefits field. They include:
- Online Benefits, Inc., an Internet-based employee benefits tool, which provides employees and their dependents a brand new way of viewing their employee benefit plan information. This product can offer employers a customized benefit office that provides employees with a wealth of benefit information that normally would be provided through a Human Resources department.
- Digital Insurance, a technological solution which enhances the level of customer service for small group employers. Through Thesco’s partnership with Digital they are now providing many small employer groups a dedicated service team who are experts in the small group market on a national basis.
Thesco has also created two subsidiaries and affiliates:
- Thesco Retirement Planning Services, which provides 401(k) administration. Thesco's 401(k) specialists work with a broad array of pension specialists to ensure that their clients partner with the ones that best suit their needs.
- A.V.I. Benefits, LLC, a joint venture with A.V.I. International. A.V.I. International is a multi-dimensional organization that has become the largest minority controlled insurance services firm in the country.
These acquisitions, partnerships, subsidiaries and affiliates allow Thesco to be a complete, full service broker. They have been extremely important to the success of the company.
Our goal has been to become a successful insurance broker, focusing primarily on Employee Benefit coverages. To accomplish this we have:
- Established a platform upon which to build a large, successful Employee Benefits firm.
- Realized significant growth through the natural development of new clients.
- Retained clients by providing a level of service and technical knowledge not typically associated with Employee Benefit firms of our size, or available to clients in our target market.
