Richard Fleder serves as CEO of Thesco Benefits, LLC. In this capacity, he has developed and will maintain the vision of the Company.
In 1975, Richard entered the insurance business as an employee of Tanenbaum-Harber Co., Inc (T&H). He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he received the CLU designation from the American College of Insurance. In 1980, he was named executive vice president of T&H, responsible for their employee benefits division.
In 1978, Richard helped found Comprehensive Benefits Service Company (CBSC) a third party claims administrator. He was named president of CBSC in 1986. While helping CBSC achieve this success, he continued to run the benefits operation of T&H.
In 1986, CBSC was sold to Employee Benefits Plans, Inc. (EBP), the largest third party administrator in the country. EBP was based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. In 1992, Richard became president of the largest health plan of EBP. In 1996, EBP was sold to First Data Corporation. He declined an offer to remain with the new company, and opted to partner with Walter Harris to form Thesco Benefits.
Richard is a member of the HMO Board of Directors of Oxford Health Plans. He is the sole member of the brokerage and consulting community to sit on this board. He is also a member of the advisory councils of Aetna, HealthNet and United Healthcare.

Robert Munao is the Senior Vice President, National Sales Director of Thesco Benefits, LLC. Bob has been in the Employee Benefits business for over 25 years. He graduated from Fordham University with his MBA, and proceeded to become one of the leading benefit salespersons within MetLife.
In the early 1980’s, Bob started a regional TPA with the backing of a French-owned parent company. With managed care on the horizon, Bob started his own consulting company, RM Consulting, to focus on large corporate clients that self-insure. In 1990, Bob sold his company to a division of HRH, Inc.
Bob has recently joined Thesco Benefits after being president of Kaye Benefits, which was owned by HUB International. Bob was the national practice leader for all of the U.S. HUB operations.
In 2002 and 2003, Bob was chairman of the Benefits Committee for the National Council of Agents and Brokers in Washington, D.C.

Walter Harris is the Chairman of the Board of Thesco Benefits, LLC. He is also President and CEO of T&H, a position he has held since 1984. Walter graduated from Stanford University in 1974, and earned a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley in 1977. In 1982, he received an LLM Taxation from the New York University School of Law.
After practicing law for several years, Walter joined T&H. As President/CEO, he is responsible for their daily operations. In addition to running T&H, Walter has formed several insurance affiliates, including retail offices in Florida and California, a wholesale broker, a reinsurance intermediary and an entertainment insurance broker.

Paula Boyd-Tavsanli is an Executive Vice President of Thesco Benefits, LLC. Paula entered the insurance industry in 1975 in the Pension Department of the Equitable Life Assurance Society. She joined Equitable’s Group Insurance Department in 1977. In 1988, Paula left Equitable to assume a position in Account Management for Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company. She joined CBSC, where she first met and worked with Richard Fleder, in 1991 as Client Services Manager. In 1996, after the sale of EBP, she joined the Prudential Insurance Company of America’s healthcare company as Director of Client Services for the tri-state area.
In 1997, Paula accepted a position in New York Life’s managed care company, NYLCare, as Director of Account Management. She then joined Oxford Health Plans in January 1998 as Regional Director of Account Management.
In October 1999, Paula joined Thesco Benefits in the position of Senior Vice President of Thesco Benefits, LLC. She is responsible for the insurance operations of Thesco, including client management and satisfaction, retention of in-force business, integration of new business and financial analysis.

Gene Smith is the Senior Vice President in charge of Thesco's Chicago Office. Before joining Thesco, Gene spent ten years as a broker/consultant with two brokerage firms. Most recently he was the Employee Benefits practice leader for Willis in Chicago, the largest Willis Employee Benefits operation in the U.S., and prior to that he ran the Chicago employee benefits operation for Hub International. Gene began his insurance career at MetLife, where he spent ten years in group product development, sales and management, culminating in his appointment as Regional Manager, covering four offices within a 14 state territory.
As the Midwest Practice Leader for Thesco, Gene is responsible for the development and growth of the operation. In addition to his local sales/service and management roles, Gene serves as an Advisory Member on several national and regional carrier / vendor advisory boards. He has also participated as a national board member of the Council of Employee Benefit Executives in Washington, DC.
Gene received his Bachelor of Science degree from Loras College. |
